Statutes of the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena

§ 1 General

The Statutes of the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (Committee) shall apply mutatis mutandis to the Ethics Committee of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, unless otherwise stipulated below.

§ 2 Tasks and responsibilities

1. the Commission provides assistance to scientists of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences by providing advisory services(s)|consultations on ethical and legal aspects of their research. In ethical questions of research involving human subjects, the Commission shall become active upon request of the researcher, in other ethically relevant cases upon formal request of the Dean.
2. cases whose judgement requires the professional (medical) competence of the Ethics Committee of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena are referred to it.

§ 3 Composition

(1) The Commission shall be composed of seven academics from the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, representing as broadly as possible the spectrum of subjects in the Faculty, as well as one humanities scholar specialising in Ethics and one lawyer with the competence|qualification to hold the office of judge or a law degree.
2. the members of the commission are appointed by the faculty council|Board of the Medical Faculty on the recommendation of the institutes.
3. the chair of the commission is a member of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. He shall be elected from among the members of the Commission.

§ 4 Bases

The Commission shall base its judgement on the ethical guidelines of the relevant professional associations.
