The disciplinary core track is the heart of our study program. We begin with a weekend course just before the first semester starts, in which we prepare you for studying in Jena’s multicultural environment. The Introductory Module in the first semester then creates a common methodological foundation for students, who have very diverse educational backgrounds. The International Organisations module and the Crisis Management Module span over two semesters each, with an introductory seminar in the first term and a choice of different seminars in the second term to deepen and expand your knowledge about international organisations and their role in the management of international crises.

The Executive Module in the second semester is a very practical seminar that is always taught by a practitioner focusing on topics close to their organization’s expertise. The week-long summer school after the end of the second semester focuses on one specific aspect of crisis management, with changing topics each year. Both modules provide innovative teaching formats and examination procedures.

IOCM students spend the third semester abroad. The fourth semester is reserved for the master thesis. In our demand-tailored thesis workshops, you will discuss your thesis' topic with your chosen supervisor and fellow students, and write an exposé laying out a plan for your research project.
