Franziska Schwebel has been a research associate at the chair of International Organizations at Friedrich Schiller University Jena since July 2026 and is pursuing her doctorate under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Christian Kreuder-Sonnen. As part of the PANDEQUITY project, her research focuses on questions of justice and equity in health emergencies and the ways in which equity is negotiated within global health governance.
She developed her interest in the political dynamics of global health during her Master's studies in International Relations at King's College London. In her Master's thesis, she examined the interactions between geopolitical power dynamics and vaccination politics during the COVID-19 pandemic, using Brazil as a case study.
Prior to joining Friedrich Schiller University Jena, she worked as a research assistant at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin within the project Global and European Health Governance in Crisis, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Health. Her research focused on contemporary challenges in global health policy, and she has published on contestation surrounding sexual and reproductive health and rights in international organizations.
In her doctoral research, she examines the contestation of equity in global health governance. Her research interests lie at the intersection of global health policy, international governance, and social justice.
