VARICRIS launches

The Chair of International Organizations is launching the new DFG-funded research project VARICRIS, which examines how transboundary crises affect the governance capacities of international organizations. Led by Prof. Dr. Christian Kreuder-Sonnen together with Dr. Christian Rauh from the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, the project investigates why some crises lead to greater authority and resources for international organizations, while others weaken their ability to act. Particular attention is given to how crisis perceptions vary in intensity, timing, and cross-border reach.

VARICRIS combines theoretical work and exploratory case studies with a large-scale analysis of international news data. The project develops new ways of measuring crisis perceptions across countries, policy areas, and time in order to better understand how international organizations respond to different types of crises.

With the launch of the project, we also welcome Dr Mona Saleh as a new postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of International Organizations. Her research focuses on institutional overlap, peace and security governance, and the ways in which institutional environments shape the authority and agency of international and regional organizations.
