Abstract

Daily social interactions are a crucial component of well-being and health across the lifespan, even though they often feel like a mundane part of everyday life. However, differences in how various interac-tion modalities affect older adults’ well-being remain understudied. The presented research examined how social interactions across different modalities relate to positive and negative affect, as well as lone-liness, in the daily lives of Swiss older adults (N = 118, mean age = 72). The talk will explore the follow-ing questions: (1) How is the frequency of social interactions associated with daily well-being and loneli-ness in older adults’ lives? (2) Can frequent social interactions not only improve well-being, but also buff-er adverse effects of poor health on well-being? (3) Is the interaction modality or the interaction partner a more important factor in the association between social interaction and well-being? and (4) How is di-versity in social interactions associated with well-being?
