Personal details

Since October 2014, Prof. Dr. Astrid Zech is head of the Department of Movement Science and Exercise Physiology at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. After completing her training as a physiotherapist, she studied Sports Science, Psychology and Pedagogy at the University of Magdeburg from 1997 to 2003. Her PhD at the University of Magdeburg on "Alterations of Muscle Functions after Operative Reconstruction of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament" was supported, among other things, by a graduate scholarship of the State of Saxony-Anhalt and was successfully defended in 2007. From 2007 to 2010, she worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Sports Science at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. From 2010, she worked as a junior professor at the Institute of Exercise Science at the University of Hamburg. Her habilitation with the topic "Sensorimotor and sports training" was awarded the Habilitation Award of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in 2013. In 2014, she accepted the call for a W3 professorship at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
