Brief description
The study program prepares students for practical work as a psychologist, which does not require a master’s degree in psychology. Graduates of this bachelor’s program have several opportunities for further qualification in master’s programs in the field of psychology, including psychological psychotherapy.
The B.Sc. program in Psychology is multipurpose and provides basic scientific (e.g., core psychological concepts and theories) and methodological knowledge (e.g., research findings, strategies, and methods of knowledge acquisition) as well as practical professional qualifications (e.g., diagnostics techniques, evaluation, prognostics, and intervention). Students are prepared for selected professional fields (e.g., health and social services including psychotherapeutic care, education, science, administration, industry and law).
At the Institute of Psychology in Jena, we lay the foundation for modern and internationally oriented teaching through excellent research. We are able to promote an application-oriented research and teaching focus through our diverse cooperations and evaluation projects with industry, clinics, practitioners and social organizations. By combining excellent research and applied projects with internships and degree theses, many of our graduates are seamlessly introduced into their targeted professional and research fields.
Study program structure
The duration of the program is 6 semesters. A total of 180 credit points must be achieved (1 credit point corresponds to 30 hours of work).
The study program has a modular structure. Individual modules consist of lectures, seminars, internships, exercises, tutorials, independent studies and exams. Each module contains a teaching as well as an examination unit and usually extends over a period of two semesters. The range of courses fully covers the content and time requirements for the bachelor’s degree according to the Psychotherapists Act (PsychThG) and the licensing regulations for psychotherapists (PsychThApprO).
