  • Assessment of Jena as a study location

Why did you decide to study at FSU Jena?

For me, studying in Central Germany was actually the only option, as I didn't want to leave the region after leaving school. The choice between Leipzig, Erfurt, Berlin, Dresden and Jena was actually decided by the possibility of being able to combine a humanities subject with Psychology.

What was it like for you to study at the FSU Jena?

I really enjoyed my time in Jena - both in terms of my free time and my studies. The professors and lecturers I got to know personally were almost always great and the course was well organised. Looking back, I was also impressed by the structure of the degree programmes compared to other universities.

  • Assessment of the B.A. Psychology Supplementary Subject degree programme

What subject combination did you have?

Major subject German Studies and supplementary subject Psychology

Why did you want to study Psychology as a supplementary subject in the B.A. degree programme?

Probably for the same reasons as many others: Because my Abitur was too bad for the B. Sc. degree programme.

What was good about the B. A. Psychology programme in Jena, what did you particularly like?

For me personally, it was the contrast between the main and supplementary subject. When I had enough of literary texts and methods, I was able to devote myself to psychological models and studies and vice versa, of course. So I was able to take what was relevant to me from both worlds.

Would you recommend the degree programme to others? Why?

Definitely! The lectures are largely the same as those on the B. Sc. degree programme, so you get an equivalent quality of education in terms of the basics and your electives. However, the supplementary subject-specific modules were also very beneficial.

  • Benefits of the degree programme for further professional development

How did your B.A. in Psychology as a complementary subject in Jena benefit your further development?

The supplementary subject Psychology was my (back?)door into the world of psychology, which I had wanted to enter since my school days. Without this combination of subjects, I would never have discovered the exciting field of work, industrial and organisational psychology, nor would I have been able to do my Master's degree in it.

  • Supplementary notes

Is there anything else you would like to pass on to those interested in or currently enrolled in the B. A. Psychology programme?

I can say from experience: do what interests you and what you're passionate about, otherwise it's not worth it - even if others may find it exotic or incomprehensible. And finding out what you're not good at is also an important realisation!

Why did you decide to study at the FSU Jena?

Jena is a great city to study in. There are lots of tenders for students and studying at FSU is well organised.

  • Assessment of the B.A. Psychology Supplementary Subject degree programme

What subject combination did you have?

Major subject Educational Science and supplementary subject Psychology

Why did you want to study Psychology as a supplementary subject on the BA degree programme?

I studied Psychology as a complementary subject to my major subject Educational Science. This combination worked very well together and it was particularly exciting to be able to familiarise myself with two different fields of study, two institutes and different scientific perspectives. I decided to study this course because I was interested in the development of children and young people, their behaviour and ways of supporting them.

What was good about the B.A. Psychology degree programme in Jena, what did you particularly like?

A particularly positive thing about the B.A. Psychology degree programme is that you have a lot of options as to which lectures and seminars you attend, so you can set your own focus.

  • Benefits of the degree programme for further professional development

How did your B.A. in Psychology at the EF in Jena benefit your further development?

By studying psychology as a supplementary subject, I learnt a lot about the basics of psychology and how it works and thinks, particularly on the topics of developmental psychology, learning and advisory services(s)|consultations. This prior knowledge also helps me in a professional context and makes it easier to learn new methods, etc.
