The supplementary subject Psychology can be combined with one of the major subjects at the University of Jena as part of the multi-subject Bachelor of Arts|BA programme. The supplementary subject follows on from the B.Sc. in Psychology and shares its scientific character. However, it is not an alternative to the Bachelor of Science, but is intended to add the psychological dimension to the knowledge and professional qualifications of the B.A. major subject.

  • What requirements should I bring with me?

    The degree programme is admission-free (without numerus clausus).

    A university entrance qualification such as the general university entrance qualification is required for admission to the degree programme.

    A special interest in social and behavioural science issues and interdisciplinary exchange is desirable. Good knowledge of Mathematics, Biology, German and English is also an advantage.

  • With which major subjects can I combine the degree programme in the multi-subject Bachelor's degree?

    The supplementary subject B.A. Psychology can be freely combined with all major subjects offered at the University of Jena.

    A combination of the B.A. Psychology with the following major subjects is recommended:

  • How is the B.A. Psychology programme structured?

    First year of study|academic year

    In the first year of study|academic year, you will gain an insight into Psychology and learn the basicmethods that are so important in this subject. You will also learn the basics of various cognitive, motivational and emotional processes. You will be able to apply and test the methodological knowledge you have acquired as well as subject-specific study techniques (literature research in specialised databases, empirical work, computer-aided data analysis, presentation of findings). You will also experience scientific work for yourself by participating in psychological studies.

    Second year of study|academic year

    In the second and third year of study|academic year, you will choose different focuses from the following basic subjects of Psychology in line with your major subject:

    • General Psychology
    • Social psychology
    • Developmental psychology
    • Personality psychology and psychological diagnostics

    Third year of study|academic year

    From the third year of study|academic year, the basic knowledge acquired is expanded in application subjects and transferred to professionally relevant contexts. You choose a focus from the following application modules:

    • Educational Psychology
    • Biological and clinical Psychology
    • Occupational and organisational psychology
    • Intervention and review

In the second and third year of study|academic year, students can flexibly deviate from the recommended study plan according to their own needs. The regulations in the Study and Examination Regulations and the courses (offered) depending on capacity are decisive for the actual course of study.

  • Is there a subject-specific study counselling service for the B.A. Psychology?

    Subject-specific study counselling for the B.A. Psychology degree programme is available throughout the entire course of study.

    This takes place in cooperation with the Central Student Advisory Service and the Student Representative Council of the University of Jena and is tendered by tutors of the B.A. Psychology degree programme. The following topics can be covered in the advisory services(s)|consultations:
