Here you will find all the important information and tips on studying Psychology as a minor subject.

  • Programme structure

    Programme structure and content

    First year of study|academic year

    In the first year of study|academic year, you will gain an insight into Psychology and learn the basicmethods that are so important in this subject. You will also learn the basics of various cognitive, motivational and emotional processes. You will be able to apply and test the methodological knowledge and subject-specific study techniques you have acquired (literature research in specialised databases, empirical work, computer-aided data analysis, presentation of findings). You will also experience scientific work for yourself by participating in psychological studies.

    Second year of study|academic year

    In the second and third year of study|academic year, you will choose different focuses from the following basic subjects of Psychology, tailored to your major subject:

    • General Psychology
    • Social psychology
    • Developmental psychology
    • Personality psychology and psychological diagnostics

    Third year of study|academic year

    From the third year of study|academic year, the basic knowledge acquired is expanded in application subjects and transferred to professionally relevant contexts. You choose a focus from the following application modules:

    • Educational Psychology
    • Biological and clinical Psychology
    • Occupational, industrial and organisational psychology
    • Intervention and review
  • Module catalogue, recommended study plan and Study Regulations

    The module catalogue, recommended study plan and Study Regulations are important companions during your studies.

    Please read the documents carefully! Many questions about the organisation of your studies are answered there.

    • The recommended study planpdf, 59 kb · de shows a possible course of study for a B.A. in Psychology as a complementary subject and is intended to serve as a guide. In the second and third year of study|academic year, you can flexibly deviate from the recommended study plan according to your own needs.
    • The specific course of study is determined by the regulations in the Study and Examination Regulations and the courses (offered) depending on capacity.

  • Subject hours

    With subject hours you prove that you have participated in scientific research at the university as a subject.

    To complete the General Psychology module (PsyN-P2), you must collect a total of 10 subject hours. To do this, you will take part in psychological studies. These will be announced online (via the e-mail distribution list de or the Vph serverExternal link), at the Institute of Psychology or in lectures.

    It is recommended (not mandatory) to complete the subject hours within the first year of study|academic year.

    Proof|evidence of the hours is provided via the so-called Testatkarte. Please download the certificatepdf, 198 kb · de card and document all subject hours according to the instructions. Finally, please send the completed testat card to the department's Administrative Assistant(sekretariat.jugendforschung@uni-jena.de). Please save a copy for your records!

    Please take careful note of this record card as an important study document!

  • Student counselling

    Subject-specific study counselling for the B.A. Psychology degree programme is available throughout the entire course of study.

    This takes place in cooperation with the Central Student Advisory Service and the Student Representative Council of the University of Jena and is tendered by tutors of the B.A. Psychology degree programme. The following topics can be covered in the advisory services(s)|consultations:

    • Study content, specialisation options, study and work techniques
    • Selection and prove|to register for|to take sth.|to enrol for sth.
    • Recognition of previously acquired academic achievements when changing degree) subject and/or place of study
