Research

Dr Mahama was a visiting researcher at the University of Ghana and a scholarship holder of the Jena Excellence Programme in the Department of Youth Research. She completed her doctorate in developmental psychology at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena.

She continues to work with Prof Dr Karina Weichold and the team at the Department of Youth Research to explore various aspects of adolescent development. Her research examines puberty and adolescence from an intercultural perspective with a focus on decolonial perspectives and voices from the Global South. The aim of this research is to gain a more balanced understanding of these key developmental stages. It also aims to support the development of interventions to help young people navigate the digital and social media landscape safely and effectively.
